Planes Arrive with Doctors and Supplies PDF Print E-mail

GEDC0699
Our hospital and clinic have been overflowing since the 7.0 earthquake hit on Jan. 12.

We are giving thanks that 3 planes arrived yesterday carrying doctors, medical staff, and emergency supplies for our mission hospital and ongoing relief efforts.

The doctors and supplies have been provided by Samaritan's Purse and HCJB global. We are grateful to them and their supporters for providing such a swift response in this time of need.

Food and other relief supplies are being stored securely in the capital, closer to the those who will need them most.

The doctors and medical supplies arrived at our hospital in Fermathe yesterday afternoon. They unloaded the trucks and immediately set to work, joining our exhausted doctors and staff who had been attending earthquake survivors since Tuesday.

Many lives are being saved through the efforts of these dedicated men and women, and we ask you to continue to lift them up in prayers. Pray that the Master Healer will give them strength and guide their hands.

Ways YOU Can Help Haiti Earthquake Survivors PDF Print E-mail

We are receiving many requests from concerned friends and ministry partners like you asking what they can do to help. Here are a few ways you can be a part of what's happening on the field in Haiti:

  • To rush your emergency relief to Haiti, you can give online. Relief funds go directly to the field, maximizing the impact of your gift.
  • Place Haiti Relief Banners on your website and blog.
  • Pray for BHM staff who have lost family, friends, and loved ones in the earthquake.
  • Pray for the ministry of BHM as key staff are numbered among the many lives lost.
  • Take up a collection at your office, church, and Bible study. Your friends and contacts might not know BHM, but they know you and will help you in your efforts.
  • Visit www.bhm.org/earthquake for the latest news and updates.
  • Follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/bhmhaiti for up-to-the-minute news.
  • Spread the word to your friends and family.
  • Keep email and phone communications open for urgent relief efforts rather than inquiring about specific individuals. Our staff is overwhelmed attending the current need and relief efforts on the ground in Haiti and is unable to respond to all the emails. Please know that we will be communicating on a regular basis.
  • We are grateful to the many teams and volunteers wanting to come and serve. At this point we cannot receive any more teams due to a shortage of supplies and water. But don't be discouraged. We will soon need you to help rebuild.

Prayer Requests following Haiti's Earthquake PDF Print E-mail
Many of you are asking what the big prayer items are so that you can share these with your churches this upcoming Sunday. Here are some ways you can support us through prayer.

Prayer Requests

  • That God would work in the hearts of the people and that many would come to know Him through this tragedy.
  • Wisdom to know how to start helping the many who are hurt, without food and water or without shelter.
  • Safety as we receive supplies and start to distribute them. There is always a concern that we could be the target of mobbing if they know we have lots of supplies.
  • That God would miraculously supply the needed diesel, water and food that we need. Our hospital needs the generator to keep it running, so diesel is a huge need.
  • That the medical team scheduled to arrive on Tuesday would be able to arrive without any troubles and with all their supplies.
  • For strength for the hospital staff, missionaries, and all those involved in the relief efforts to continue day by day.

Thank you so much for your prayers. We are continually seeing God at work and we know that He is answering prayers.

Praises

  • Our missionaries and their children are all safe and uninjured
  • Our hospital is still standing and rendering non-stop aid to the needy
  • Fresh doctors have arrived to assist and relieve our medical team
  • Most of our Haitian staff and ministry partners are well

Update on our Doctors PDF Print E-mail

Last night we heard that our community health doctor died in the earthquake. Pray for Dr. Agenor's family. We are also waiting to hear from other doctors and medical staff. Some were at the heart of the quake, so we are fearing the worst. Please pray for their safety.

We have heard that one of the doctors arriving today is an orthopedic surgeon, and that is a huge answer to prayer. The hospital is overwhelmed by patients needing an orthopedic surgeon.

Continue to pray for strength for Dr. Claude, and Dr. Bernard. They have been diligently working since the earthquake happened and are utterly exhausted. They need the help of the four doctors arriving today.
