Rebuilding Homes and Lives |
|

|
Following the massive earthquake that flattened homes and buildings across Haiti on January 12 and claimed nearly 300,000 lives, we were overwhelmed by the need that surrounded us-and by the generous response from our friends and supporters around the world.
Search and rescue teams immediately began looking for survivors. Weeks on end followed with critical medical care provided by our hospital doctors, nurses, and visiting teams.
As the dust began to settle, we began to hear from the survivors, people who were spared in the astonishing miracles we can attribute only to God's grace and mercy. People who now look to us to help them rebuild the broken pieces of their homes and lives. Baby Asher is one such story.

Voodoo's Still Strong. Jesus is Stronger. |

Today, when you visit the rural communities of Haiti, you’ll notice people talking on cell phones, and many will offer to give you their email address. Electricity and running water are still scarcities, but modern marvels are quickly linking rural Haiti to the outside world.
In the presence of such modern tools as cell phones, it can be hard to believe that Voodoo, Haiti’s ancient religion, still lives in the hearts of the people. But it’s true. The Voodoo priest or priestess continues to be one of the most revered, and feared, members of the community.
Ask anyone of one partnering pastors, and you’ll hear firsthand that Voodoo is still strong. But Jesus Christ is stronger.
