Exactly one week ago, today, 71 students and leaders from Crossings Ministries, began to pack their bags in Haiti and prepare for their return trip to the United States. For many, almost one year of preparation was involved for their trip to Haiti, April 1-6. Although their week in Haiti is now a memory, it is safe to say it will never be forgotten. The team came to Haiti with a desire to Engage the culture, Serve the people, and Discover God’s call for His children to Go. This goal was achieved in a variety of ways.
Engage-
Throughout the entire week students were fully engaged in the culture of Haiti. They experienced shopping in the crowded market place and dining on Haitian cuisine. Travel was done on Tap Taps (Haiti taxis) rented for the week.
Voyages were made through local communities which enabled the team to be exposed to the everyday life of their brothers and sisters in Haiti. And, the team fully engaged the extreme Haiti heat, crystal clear coastlines, and breathtaking mountain views.
Serve-
There are countless ways to serve in the country of Haiti. Each day the team divided tasks in an effort to serve most effectively. The adults and students served on the BHM camp property in Montrouis by painting several buildings, assisting in meal preparation, and sifting sand for the camp volleyball court. Not only did the group serve on the camp property, they also had the opportunity to serve in a few local churches.
Vacation Bible Schools were led each day by different portions of the group. This opportunity allowed the group to serve the church through clearly proclaiming the gospel to hundreds of people each day!
Games and recreation were a highlight for team members as well as Vacation Bible School participants.
