Church Growth

96% of Haiti’s population claims to be Christian. Very few of those who make this claim have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, or know what it means to live according to his teachings. Voodooism, on the other hand, is practiced by roughly half of the Haitian population, making it the dominant religion. Voodoo offers illusions of power and is used to control the masses by mistrust and fear. In April of 2003, an executive decree by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide sanctioned voodoo as an officially recognized religion.

From the beginning BHM’s primary goal has been to bring individual people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through biblical education and training, BHM seeks to assist individuals and the Church as a whole to grow in knowledge and spiritual maturity.

BHM works alongside the local churches of Haiti, encouraging and helping church leaders to rise up and seek change and growth. BHM offers a number of ministry aids and resources as well.

Training and Conferences:

  • BHM has developed specific Bible training courses, which it offers to church leaders seeking to equip them further in ministry.
  • The Mission provides conferences for the pastors of Haiti throughout the year. These conferences are geared to meet their practical needs.
  • A conference may also focus on new teaching methods for primary schools or a specific topic requested by the pastors.

Mission Camp

  • The Mission has a camp property located in Montrouis, on the coast, north of Port-au-Prince.
  • The camp operates during the summer for local churches to bring their youth. Throughout the year the camp holds retreats.

Construction:

  • Carpenters at the Mission build pre-fabricated structures for churches once they develop to the point of needing a permanent church building.
  • The members of the church work for months gathering sand, rock, gravel, and blocks to prepare the site.  An engineer and building crew are sent out by the Mission to work alongside the community to help them build their church.
