“Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.” Luke 10:9
The medical ministry of BHM is motivated by a desire to meet the physical needs of the mountain people and to gain an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Disease and malnutrition are common in the mountain regions throughout Haiti. The Fermathe Hospital is located on the Mission and is staffed and run completely by Haitian doctors and nurses.
The hospital operates 80 beds, a pediatric and maternity ward, a pharmacy, and an outpatient clinic. The hospital sees over 18,000 patients every year.
There is a great resistance by a majority of the Haitian people to visit a doctor. Due to this fact, solutions to Haiti’s medical problems must include health education as well as treatment. BHM’s medical programs are designed to help both sickness and the lack of knowledge that affects its treatment. The health extension and education programs continue to expand, reaching further and further into mountain areas previously unreached. The doctors and nurses are tirelessly striving towards enhancing medical care.
Cost Breakdown
- 50 gourdes for hospital and doctor fees – approximately $1.25 U.S.
- 290 gourdes for surgery - approximately $7.25 U.S.
*Though these fees seem low, they are a great cost for mountain people who often exist on $1-2 per day.
You can contribute to help improve the health condition of children and families in Haiti.
A regular donation of only $1 can help provide basic needs for families in Haiti. Larger amounts will help to expand the ministries by enabling BHM to purchase updated equipment and start new clinics in remote areas.
